eBay buys StumbleUpon for $75 Million– Similar Community website Comparable to Digg
|
EBay is expanding its focus and has purchased StumbleUpon for a reported $75 million dollars.
StumbleUpon is very similar format like Diggit where people can rate the websites that they visit. It can help promote content that is of value and of interest. Unlike a traditional search engine that can rate sights that are purely void of information.
StumbleUpon uses a toolbar that is built into the internet browser. It makes it quick to rate any website, not just sites that have a link on it. You can give the page thumbs up or down rating. If enough people rate the site positively it floats to the top of the list on StumbleUpon. There is an estimated 2.3 million users with over 5 million recommendations every day.
This is a community based website and may help place eBay into the search engine world in the years to come. There have been a number of these types of websites that have put the rating and ranking in the hands of the users of the site.
