How To Sell Products Online Using eBay Amazon Overstock or Yahoo – Compare Your Item With Items Online

There are various channels for selling products online. The most popular is eBay. Amazon and Yahoo also have online sales programs too. There are some things you need to consider before you begin selling online. You will need to find products to sell and determine if you can make a profit.

eBay began as an auction site but has since expanded into fixed price selling with their eBay eXpress and eBay Stores. The eBay Stores are for professional sellers who pay a monthly fee to list their products. Their store program is similar to Yahoo Shopping. Amazon has also opened their site up to outside venders.

Your approach to selling will depend greatly on what you want to sell. If you are selling antiques or one-of-a-kind items, an auction would probably be your best bet. Yahoo once had auctions, but as of June 2007 they have “retired” them. eBay still accommodates auction sales.

If you want to sell new products that can be purchased over and over again, you should consider a storefront from Yahoo, eBay, Amazon or Overstock. The first thing you should do is compare the cost of your products to the prices sold in the internet marketplaces. Go to eBay and see what your widget is selling for. If you can make at least 30% profit, consider selling the item.

Read the competition’s ads carefully. Some of the products may be used, open-box or store returns. Compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges. If your product is brand new, it is worth more than an open-box item or store return.

If you plan to sell new items, look for sellers selling new items. Compare the marketplaces. Look for the exact same item on Yahoo, eBay, Amazon and Overstock. Do a search in Google Shopping (Google Products Beta). How would your price compare to the competition?

Consider the shipping costs. Some sellers will charge a flat fee for shipping. Others will charge a fee based on your location. Some sellers will compute shipping depending on your zip code. f the buyer is closer, the cost for shipping will be less.

How heavy is the widget you are planning to sell? You will need to compare shipping costs between the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx Ground and DHL. If your product is too heavy, it will have to be shipped via freight, and this will cost quite a bit more.
